Glass ceramics, also known as microcrystalline glass, microcrystalline ceramics, invented by the famous glass chemist and inventor S.D.Stookey in the mid-1950s, is a polycrystalline solid-phase material containing a glass body made by controlled nucleation and crystallization at a certain temperature for some specific basic glass. The performance of glass ceramics is mainly determined by the main crystal phase, which can be achieved by controlling the nucleation, crystallization and selection of different mother glass components. Glass ceramics have the characteristics of both glass and ceramics, and are superior to metals and polymers in thermal, chemical, biological, optical and electrical properties.
